The commercially available Large-fruited cypress - Cupressus macrocarpa is notable for its small size and was specifically developed as a houseplant. Cypress is a coniferous plant and its cultivation and care methods are the same as for Araucaria.

In shops, especially around New Year, you can find cypresses in a wide variety of forms - trimmed into a pyramid, a shrub, or a small tree. The cypress truly resembles a miniature living fir and can make a wonderful New Year gift. However, there are cypresses in stores that have been treated with special glitter to look more festive and more like a Christmas tree; in reality this harms the plant, so it is better to buy a cypress in its natural state, without glitter and ornaments.
