Appearance: in the first 10 years of life a strictly upright small tree, later narrowly ovoid, with erect branches, slow-growing.

Requirements: sun/partial shade, winter-hardy, tolerant of drought and wind; in hot, dry climates it drops its foliage early; tolerant of urban conditions.

Soil: dry or fresh, neutral or alkaline, well-drained; sensitive to soil salinity.

Note: requires staking/support for a long time, responds well to pruning.
