Back to catalogue
Family Crassulaceae.Native mostly to South Africa. This is a large genus of succulent plants, numbering according to various sources about 300 - 350 species. Among them are small plants (a few centimeters tall) and giants up to several meters, which are difficult to keep at home.

Crassula arborescens - Толстянка древовидная - a tree-like plant, growing up to 1.5 m in height. It has distinctive gray leaves with a red margin along the edge, up to 8 cm long and about 5 cm wide. It blooms in maturity in spring with small white flowers that gradually turn pink; however, it flowers very rarely indoors. Sometimes it forms aerial roots. It grows well on western and eastern windows or nearby.

Crassula portulacea - Толстянка портулаковая - or Money Tree - a tree-like plant up to 1 m high with dark green leaves and a red margin along the edge. Leaves up to 5 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. It forms aerial roots that are whitish at first, then darken. It blooms with small white or pink flowers. This plant can also be encountered under other names — as silver crassula (crassula argentea) or oval crassula (crassula ovata). This crassula is not demanding regarding direct sun and grows well at any windows.

Crassula lycopodioides - Толстянка плауновидная - quite unlike the previous species. Its leaves are thin but fleshy, erect and arranged in four rows of very small leaflets. It spreads quickly and the shoots often spill over the edge of the pot. Twigs readily break off and root. It blooms with inconspicuous yellowish flowers. Another name is crassula mucosa (Толстянка слизистая). A completely undemanding plant that tolerates some shading.

Crassula tetragona - Толстянка четырехгранная - a subshrub with thin shoots that often bend and trail along the soil. Leaves are thin, long, but fleshy. It forms many aerial roots. An undemanding species, but unfortunately it ages quickly and requires constant renewal with new cuttings.
