Cotoneaster horizontalis
Appearance: a small prostrate shrub, height 0.7-1 m, width 1.5-2 m, shoots lie in layers, the arrangement of branches resembles a ribbed ridge, slow-growing.
Flowers: white or pink, small, May-June.
Fruits: scarlet, numerous.
Leaves: rounded, glossy, green, in autumn – fiery red.
Requirements: sun/partial shade, winter-hardy, undemanding, tolerates urban conditions easily.
Note: responds well to shaping, can be trained as an espalier.
Soils: all more or less fertile, well-drained garden soils, from relatively dry to moist, from acidic to alkaline.
