Cornus canadensis
Appearance: forms carpets, height 0.1–0.15 m, a very low groundcover dwarf shrub, produces suckers, slow-growing.
Flowers: inconspicuous, green, surrounded by four white bracts, late May, a beautiful flowering carpet.
Fruits: scarlet berries, in clusters, from August, not poisonous.
Leaves: small, elliptical, dark green, in autumn – slightly reddish.
Root system: shallow.
Requirements: partial shade/shade, cool and cold locations, winter-hardy, prefers increased moisture, not tolerant of sun.
Soils: from acidic to slightly acidic, moist, rich in organic matter.
Note: grows in dense plantings of deciduous and coniferous plants.
