Family kremovikh. Occurs in dry open woodlands of junipers and low-growing pines in the lower montane belt of California. Local name - "Club-haired Mariposa" (Club-haired mariposa).
Stem strong, often branched, 40-100 cm high. Leaves deeply grooved. Flowers bell-shaped, erect, numbering 2-5. Petals 3.4-4.5 cm long, broadly fan-shaped, strongly reflexed, bright yellow, with a broad, usually brownish claw; the lower half is covered with yellow club-shaped hairs. Anthers reddish-brown, 1-1.2 cm long. Lanceolate capsule, 6-7 cm long. Seeds light yellow. One of the large-flowered species of the genus. Many garden cultivars have been developed in the USA. 2n = 16
