Cineraria

Back to catalogue
Family Asteraceae. Canary Islands. The correct name is bloody ragwort - Senecio cruentus. This is an ornamental flowering plant; many hybrid forms are widespread in cultivation.

Cineraria has large, lobed, pubescent leaves. Depending on the species, plant size may range from 25 to 70 cm in height. Flowers can be single, double or semi-double, resembling daisies. Flowers come in a wide variety of colors and shades - blue, lilac, pink, orange, red, etc., except yellow. Blooms in winter and early spring.

Temperature: Cool at all times, ideally 12-13°C, not above 15°C and not below 8°C.

Light: Bright, diffused light; an east or west windowsill is best.

Watering: Abundant; the soil should be kept slightly moist at all times. Cineraria leaves transpire a lot of water, so drying out of the root ball is harmful to the plant; however, cineraria also does not tolerate excessive watering. Use only warm water for watering.
