Family Ranunculaceae. Large, up to 2 m tall, late flowering (September-October) plants.

Varieties of branched bugbane:

- "Atropurpurea" - a tall-growing (up to 2 m) plant, "sporting" reddish-brown leaves early in the season, later turning green. Flowers white;

- "James Compton" - a new variety with dark purple leaves and white flowers;

- "Frau Herms" (formerly known as "Hansa Herms") - a dwarf, only 40 cm tall, plant with white flowers;

- "Pink Spike" - a new variety with leaves colored beetroot-red, and white flowers of the same shade.
