Racemose Cimicifuga
Cimicifuga racemosa (L.) Nutt.
Family Ranunculaceae. Native range - eastern North America.
Perennial plant. Stems erect, branched, leafy, up to 200 cm tall. Clump spreads to a width of up to 60 cm. Rhizome well developed, roots large, fibrous and numerous. Leaves large, petiolate, arranged alternately, twice- or thrice-ternate, with toothed margins. Flowers white, small, with a honey scent, gathered in long, racemose terminal inflorescences up to 80 cm long. Blooms (bugbane) from July to September; flowers in the inflorescence open gradually from the bottom up. Fruits. In cultivation since 1732.
