Chionodoxa sardensis Barr
Family Hyacinthaceae. Native range - the mountains of Asia Minor.
Bulbs are ovoid with brownish outer scales. In spring they push to the surface two linear leaves and 1-3 flower scapes. The flower scape is sturdy, 8-12 cm high, bearing up to 10 small flowers 1.5-2 cm in diameter, bright blue without a white spot in the throat. Blooms 5-6 days later than Chionodoxa gigantea, long-lasting, for 20-25 days, and creates a very bright patch. In cultivation since 1885. It has cultivars with white and pink flowers. Tested in Tallinn, Riga.
