Flowers for the garden

Khazmanta, profusely flowering

Chasmanthe floribunda

Back to catalogue

Family Iridaceae. The height of the shoots reaches 100–130 cm; in habit the plant resembles gladiolus (Gladiolus) and crocosmia, or montbretia (Crocosmia). The leaves are broad (up to 4 cm), dark green with longitudinal veins.

The bulb is large (up to 15–16 cm in diameter) covered with netted scales. Unlike other Iridaceae, it practically does not dry out during winter storage. One bulb produces up to five or six flower stalks, divides easily and forms many bulblets.

Elegant long-tubular flowers (up to 10–12 cm), golden-yellow in color, extend from the stem in different directions, creating the illusion of a fairly dense inflorescence. In nature they are pollinated by nectar-feeding birds. The flowers have a pleasant scent and adorn the shoots for quite a long time. Khazmanta can be used as a cut flower and is an excellent ornament for the garden.
