Indoor plants
Hamerops
Chamaerops
Family Arecaceae. Native to the Mediterranean. The genus includes two species. As a house and greenhouse plant they grow Dwarf Hamerops - Chamerops humilis.
Their leaves are stiff, bluish-green, on long petioles with spines, covered with easily shedding gray hairs. Hamerops grows slowly and is fairly undemanding. Essentially, this container plant should ideally be placed outdoors in summer and kept in a bright cool room in winter. Draughts should be avoided.
Temperature: Moderate or cool - 8-14°C, in winter cool not below 5°C.
Lighting: A bright location; it even tolerates placement on a south-facing window.
Watering: Moderate in summer, limited in winter, but watering depends directly on air temperature; for example, when kept in a cool room in winter - about 5-7°C, water very rarely or replace watering with misting. In any case the soil should not remain constantly wet.
If the palm is kept outdoors from spring, fertilizing irrigations are applied weekly from May to August; if the palm is kept indoors, fertilize every 2 weeks.
