Synonyms: Chamaecyparis lawsoniana Yvonne, Lawson's Cypress Yvonne, Yvonne cypress
Lawson cypress «Ivonne» – the best yellow form of Lawson cypress. It is an evergreen coniferous tree with a dense conical crown.
Reaches 5-7 (10) m in height, 2-3 (4) m in width. The plant is fast-growing. At 10 years it grows to 2.5 m in height. The apex is narrow, usually leaning to the side. Bark reddish-brown, thick.
Branches are straight, branched in a fan-like manner.
Foliage is scale-like, golden-yellow or yellow. The color does not change in winter. In shade it becomes pale green. The intensity of the color depends on soil moisture and fertility.
Cones are ovoid to globose, 8-10 mm in diameter. Male cones are pink or raspberry-colored, female cones are green or brown.
Hardiness zone: 6а-9 (-23-29°C) in severe winters may suffer frost damage and change foliage color to brown-orange. In spring the foliage color is restored.
Location: Sun-loving, but can grow in partial shade. Prefers nutritious, moist soil without waterlogging. Does not tolerate dry soil, compaction, especially of the top layers, and grass cover around the root circle.
Planting: Dig a hole at least 50 cm deep and in diameter. Soil mix: humus, topsoil, peat, sand in the ratio 3:2:1:2. When planting add mineral fertilizer - 5-6 kg of peat compost, mixing it with the soil.
Pruning: tolerates pruning well
Care: In spring you can feed with Kemira (100-150 g), spreading it around the root circle and then watering the plant thoroughly. In April-May you can apply nitroammophoska (30-40 g). It is also recommended to add top peat – top up the surface several times during the season. Autumn feeding is not recommended. Requires mulching and weeding of the root circle. Watering is necessary during dry periods.
Diseases and pests: resistance to Phytophthora is high.
Uses: in solitary and group plantings, for garden compositions as a colored element, for mixed borders and edging.
