Cestrum
Family Solanaceae. Native to the tropics and subtropics of Central and South America and Mexico. About 150 species of evergreen and deciduous shrubs and small trees occur in the wild.
Elegant Cestrum - Cestrum elegans - an evergreen shrub up to 1.5 m in height, with pendulous, pubescent shoots. Leaves lanceolate or ovate, pubescent on the underside. Flowers are gathered in racemose or umbelliform inflorescences. The corolla is red, funnel-shaped or tubular, up to 2.5 cm long. Flowers from April to September, fairly abundantly.
Golden-yellow Cestrum - Cestrum aurantiacum - a shrub up to 1.5 m in height. Leaves ovate or elliptical, with a wavy surface. Flowers are gathered in racemose inflorescences. The corolla is orange-yellow, funnel-shaped or tubular, up to 2 cm long. Flowers are fragrant; the scent intensifies at night.
Night Cestrum - Cestrum nocturnum - a shrub about 1.5 m in height. Leaves ovate or elliptical, with a slightly undulate surface. Flowers are gathered in racemose inflorescences. The corolla is white, funnel-shaped or tubular, up to 2.5 cm long. Flowers open at night, from which this species received its name.
