Appearance: a small tree with a rounded crown, 6-10 m tall, 5-8 m wide, very slow-growing.
Flowers: inflorescences white, in panicles, 15-30 cm, late June - July, individual flowers yellowish with crimson speckles.
Fruits: very decorative brown pods, 15-40 cm long.
Leaves: large, heart-shaped, emerge very late, in early June, at first bright golden-yellow, later lemon-yellow, by late summer light green, in autumn – pale yellow.
Root system: deep, unbranched, sensitive to mechanical damage.
Requirements: sun/partial shade, requires protection from high temperatures and drought, relatively winter-hardy, sheltered location.
Soils: rich, deep, loamy substrates.
Zone: 6b
