Family Annonaceae. Native range: Philippines, Indonesia, Madagascar. The ylang-ylang tree originates from islands of the Pacific Ocean – it is a tropical plant. Therefore it grows well in conditions of high humidity. It should be planted in a spacious pot, necessarily with good drainage. Ylang-ylang likes fresh air; its growing conditions should be as close as possible to greenhouse conditions.

The trunk is upright, about 3 m in height or more; the bark has a grayish-silver tint. Branches are slightly drooping and well leaved. Leaves are dark green, up to 20 cm long, oblong in shape, pointed at the tip with a wavy margin.

Flowers in axillary inflorescences appear year-round in natural conditions. Flowers are about 8 cm in diameter, very fragrant, initially greenish-yellow, then bright yellow. It forms greenish fleshy fruits resembling olives, about 2 cm in diameter.



Temperature: In the spring-summer period with abundant watering within 18-27 °C. In winter within 12-14 °C, but not below 10 °C – the resting period should preferably be at least 2 months.

Light: Bright sunlight. Additional lighting in winter is possible.

Watering: Abundant in summer; in winter, with lower temperatures, moderate so that the topsoil can dry out.

Fertilizers: From March to August, feed once a month with a fertilizer for flowering plants.
