Campsis × hybrida
Synonyms: Campsis × tagliabuana (Vis.) Rehder, Tecoma tagliabuana Vis., Campsis X tagliabuana (Vis.) Rehd (C. hvbrida Zabel), кампсис таглиба, Campsis х hybrida Zab.
Campsis hybrid (Campsis Lour.) – a species of deciduous climbers in the genus Campsis (Campsis) of the family Bignoniaceae (Bignoniaceae). It is a hybrid of Campsis grandiflora and Campsis radicans (Campsis grandiflora X Campsis radicans), which appeared in 1883. The species name was given in honor of the brothers Alberto Linneo and Ausonio Tagliabue, who brought this plant to Roberto de Visiani. The hybrid was first described by the Italian botanist and naturalist Roberto de Visiani in 1859.

It forms a small shrub with spreading branches, less commonly a climbing plant, reaching 4-6 (10) m in height. It practically does not climb supports. Grows quickly.

Leaves are compound, imparipinnate, dark green above, paler beneath, 25-40 cm long, composed of 7-13 small oval leaflets 7-10 cm long and 3-4 cm wide.
Flowers bloom in late summer, funnel-shaped, 8 cm long and 5-7 cm wide, from orange-yellow to orange-red in color.

Fruits – pod-like elongated leathery capsules with several flat two-winged seeds inside.

Varieties: «Madame Galen» ('Mme Galen'), 'Indian Summer' ('Kudian'), 'Dancing Flame' ('Dancing Flames', 'Huidan'), 'Rouge Orange', 'Tarantella', Tracamp' (Orangeade), 'Takarazuka Fresa' (Summer Jazz Fire), 'Takarazuka Yellow' (Summer Jazz Gold).
Hardiness zone: 6b (-20°C)
Location: light-loving, but in warm climates can grow in light partial shade. Prefer moderately moist, rich, loose loam, but can also grow on ordinary garden soil; do not like prolonged waterlogging or stagnant moisture. The best location is on the south or southeast side of a house. Do not like excessively waterlogged soils. Do not tolerate prolonged heat. An optimal site is a young wall, as well as areas protected from strong winds and cold air stagnation.
Planting: planting is carried out in early spring, before the plant flowers.
Care: it is recommended to grow Campsis in a container during the first summer and move it to a cold cellar for the winter. On most of Ukraine it is recommended to make the support removable (for example from synthetic cord). Before frosts, the plant is removed along with the support and laid on the ground. The plant is covered with conifer boughs and it is recommended to place a polyethylene film on top, on which dry plant debris can be piled. Young plants are recommended to be tied to a support; in maturity the support is not required.
Pruning: tolerates pruning easily, but in cold regions it is not recommended, as the plant flowers late after pruning and does not have time to finish vegetation.
Propagation: propagated mainly by winter and summer green cuttings, as well as by layering and seeds. Seeds are sown in early May in open ground. Flowers in the 3rd year after sowing. In northern regions, seeds often do not have time to ripen.
Diseases and pests: not affected by diseases. Pests include aphids.
Companion plants: clematis, alpine clematis, wisteria, Akebia quinata, woodland sage, narrow-leaved lavender, Nepeta x faassenii, Paeonia lactiflora, Geranium, Santolina chamaecyparissus, Sedum telephium, Potentilla fruticosa, Berberis thunbergii, Spiraea japonica.
Uses: used for vertical greening of walls, fences, arbors, pergolas, trellises; looks good on shaped supports (sphere, pyramid) on lawns. Ornamental for its large pinnate leaves, distinctive flowers, and long flowering period.
