Citrofortunella

Calamondin

Back to catalogue
Family Rutaceae. A very popular potted citrus plant - a hybrid between a mandarin and a kumquat (oval or golden orange). This plant is a small tree that produces miniature oranges about 4cm in diameter, rather bitter in taste.

Blooming occurs mainly in summer, although both flowers and fruits can appear year-round. Over time the plant reaches 1.2 m in height.

Temperature: Citrofortunella prefers warmth. It prefers temperatures of about 18-20°C. In winter it likes cool conditions of about 12°C. Lack of a cool winter rest may result in the plant not fruiting.

Light: Bright, diffused light. It will do well near east and west windows, as well as on a north-facing window. Shade from direct sun is needed in spring and summer during the hottest hours.

Watering: In summer and spring water generously 1—2 times a day with warm water; in winter watering is infrequent and moderate - 1-2 times a week, also with warm water. However, even in winter do not allow the root ball to dry out, as this leads to leaf curling and the dropping of not only leaves but also fruits. On the other hand, remember that plants die from excess moisture. Starting in October, watering is reduced.

Humidity: Citrofortunella plants are regularly misted during the summer period, and if they are kept in a centrally heated room in winter, they are misted in winter as well. When kept in rooms with dry air they are susceptible to pest infestations (mites and scale insects).
