Back to catalogue

Family kremovikh. Occurs in open stands of Libocedrus decurrens Torr. in the middle belt of the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada in California. It may also occur higher, not far from the zone of perpetual snow (2500 m). Local names - "Blue Cat's Ear" (Blue cat's ear) or "Blue Star Tulip" (Blue star tulip).

Stem 7-15 cm high, slender, sinuous, mostly unbranched. Flowers 2-4 in number, broadly bell-shaped, erect, blue (I would write light-blue). Petals equal to the sepals or slightly shorter, densely pubescent with long bluish hairs, rounded at the tip, with a bare narrow claw at the base. The glandular pit is covered by a fringed scale. Capsule ovoid-elliptic, 1-1.5 cm long, with rounded ends. 2n = 20. Sometimes this species is considered a subspecies of the more widespread C. Tolmiei.
