Description: the genus includes 8 species of deciduous and evergreen subshrubs and herbaceous perennials, occurring in dry open places in Northeast Africa, the Himalayas, China and Southeast Asia.
Rhizomatous creeping perennial. Growth habit: turf-like, spreads by runners. Height 20-30 cm. Leaf oval up to 9 cm long, with a pubescent wavy margin, opens late. Above deep green, beneath gray-green, in autumn bronze or orange-red. Inflorescences: sky-blue, small, with many flowers arranged at the tip of the shoot. Flowers in late August–September. The red autumn coloration of the leaves is very pronounced.
