Buxus
Family: Buxaceae. Native – the countries of the Mediterranean, Asia, North Africa, the Caucasus, Japan. The genus includes about 50 species. In Russia box is often grown as a potted plant, and in regions with a warmer climate - also as a living hedge.
In addition, box is one of the classic plants for bonsai; it has many advantages for this: it grows in a small container, tolerates pruning easily, forms a good bush, has small leaves, and is simply a useful plant.
Temperature: In summer normal room temperature, although box prefers to be placed outdoors. It can be put out on a balcony after the danger of spring frosts has passed; bring it in in autumn at the first cold. Box should winter in cool conditions with limited watering. Optimal in winter around 5°C, winter around 16-18°C, not below 12°C.
Lighting: Bright, diffused light. In summer shading from direct midday sun is required. In the garden box is placed in the natural shade of taller shrubs or trees.
Watering: Fairly abundant in summer; in winter, depending on temperature, more sparing.
Fertilizer: From March to August, every 2 weeks. Fertilizer for azaleas is suitable.
Humidity: Responds well to periodic spraying with water that has been left to stand.
