Family: Liliaceae. Of the 28 species of this genus, the most well-known in ornamental gardening is the graceful Bouteloua (Bouteloua gracilis)

Known as bison, mesquite, pasture grass. Under the name "bison grass" the literature may also refer to another North American grass - Buchloe (Buchloe dactyloides) - a perennial dioecious long-rhizomed plant that is an excellent substitute for lawn grasses in arid areas, requiring no watering, feeding or mowing and reaching a height of only 10-20 cm.
