Family: multinoded. The range of Болбитис Геделоти is the tropics of West Africa from Guinea to Angola

Among aquarists Болбитис Геделоти is an ornamental and popular fern. If the keeping conditions are favorable, it grows evenly throughout the year. However, this plant is slow-growing and fairly demanding in terms of care.

Болбитис Геделоти tolerates a range of temperatures. This plant is suitable for both a moderately warm and a tropical aquarium. It grows best at 22-26 °C. When the water temperature drops to 20 °C, growth noticeably slows. At temperatures above 28 °C and with insufficient nutrients it rapidly becomes depleted. The plant cannot tolerate hard water at all; for it to grow well, water hardness should not exceed 4°. The maximum permissible hardness is about 6°. Bolbitis requires slightly acidic water; in alkaline water its leaves rapidly deteriorate. Regular water changes are desirable.

Болбитис Геделоти is not demanding about lighting. It tolerates prolonged shading very well. For artificial lighting, fluorescent lamps of the LB type and incandescent lamps can be used. Diffuse natural light is very beneficial for this plant, but it should be protected from direct sunlight, since it is very susceptible to fouling by green and blue-green algae. The photoperiod should be at least 12 hours.

Болбитис Геделоти can be grown without substrate. This plant is very dense and sinks in water, settling on the bottom. Its roots - rhizoids - easily grow into the slightest irregularities of stones placed under it, enveloping them like a net. It is very important for the plant that there is plenty of silt on the aquarium bottom. Mineral supplementation is significant when the water temperature is high and organic matter on the bottom is insufficient.
