Flowers for the garden

Belvalia hyacinth-like

Bellevalia hyacinthoides

Back to catalogue

Family Hyacinthaceae. Bulbous plant about 15 cm tall that somewhat resembles a miniature hyacinth. A dark stripe runs through the center of the small, widely opened flowers of sky-blue color.

Leaves are slightly longer than the flower stalk and look juicier than it. This charming little plant blooms at the end of May. It is ideally suited for planting in a rock garden or other composition with low-growing vegetation. Бельвалия гиацинтовидная does not tolerate temperatures dropping below 5°C. Therefore its bulbs are better planted in pots, which for the summer are deeply buried in the ground, and for the winter are moved to a greenhouse or hothouse and well covered. In spring they are taken out to the balcony, placed in an inner courtyard patio or on a veranda, and also put into open ground
