Crimean Asphodelina
Asphodeline taurica (Pall.) Kunth
Family Asphodelaceae. Grows on rocky dry open mountain slopes and in forests in the alpine and subalpine belts of the Mediterranean region of Crimea, Transcaucasia, the Balkan Peninsula, Asia Minor and the Near East.
Plant up to 60 cm tall. Flowers white, up to 2 cm in diameter, with large silvery membranous bracts, gathered in a dense raceme up to 30 cm long; perianth segments obovate. The stem is covered with linear-subulate leaves with broad membranous sheaths. Blooms in late spring - early summer. Hardiness zones 5-9. This species is little known in general cultivation and may be recommended for rock gardens.
