Family Asphodelaceae. Grows in forests, scrub, and on open mountain slopes in the mid-montane belt (up to 1000 m above sea level) in the Mediterranean region of Europe.

Plants up to 40 cm tall. Flowers yellow, up to 2–3 cm in diameter, arranged in a loose raceme. Stem covered with awl-shaped leaves 8–10 cm long. Blooms in the second half of spring. The species is little known in cultivation. It prefers dry soil, like that of its native southern Mediterranean.
