Family Araceae. Occurs in forests, among shrubs, among rocks, in steppes of the warm-temperate and subtropical zones of the southern European part of Russia, Crimea, the Caucasus, Iran, Asia Minor and the Balkan Peninsula.

One of the most beautiful species. Tuber rounded, flattened. Plants 0.5-1 m tall. Leaves with an elongated lanceolate blade; its middle lobe obtuse, 10-20 cm long; the lateral lobes 2-3 times shorter, bent backwards. Flowering stem longer than the leaf petiole. The spathe is lanceolate, up to 26 cm long, with an elongated apex; its coloration varies from whitish-green to brownish-purple. The appendix of the spadix is dark purple; or violet, up to 10 cm long, on a thick stalk which is 2-3 times shorter than it. The inflorescence emits a strong unpleasant odor. Blooms in spring. Elongated arum grows well in shady dry corners of the garden. In winter it should be covered with the leaves of broad-leaved trees.
