Armeniaca vulgaris Lam.
Family Rosaceae. The native home of this species is the mountains of Central Asia and China. A small tree or large shrub with a broadly rounded crown. Its reddish-brown or brown-olive, glossy, glabrous shoots are very ornamental, often partially (but not entirely) covered with a grayish bloom; buds in groups of 2-3. Leaves 4-9 cm long, ovate or broadly oval, with a cordate base, an elongate-acuminate apex, and a serrated margin.
Highly decorative during flowering, adorned with numerous large white or pale-pink flowers with dark-red reflexed sepals. It blooms before the leaves unfold for a period of 7-9 days. Equally decorative in fruiting, adorned with velvety-pubescent, often blushed, sweet, rounded fruits with a longitudinal groove up to 3 cm in diameter.
