Flowers for the garden
Kidney vetch 'Red Carpet'
Anthyllis 'Red Carpet'
Legume family. Cold-hardy annual or short-lived perennial. Occurs in England on rocky sites and is widespread in Western Europe. Habitat - rocky sites, sandy, well-drained soil.
The variety var. coccinea is distinguished by brilliant red flowers. The plant is low (15 cm tall), but spreading, forms a small bush up to 30 cm in diameter, providing a dramatically bright and long-lasting splash of color. Flowers in June-August. Deserves wider cultivation as a plant for rock gardens and mixed borders. Seeds germinate evenly, usually without any preliminary treatment. If within 3-4 weeks seedlings do not appear, it is recommended to stratify the sowings for 2-4 weeks.
