Appearance: an upright shrub of medium size, 1–3 m in height, 2–3 m in width, moderate growth rate.
Flowers: white fragrant inflorescences, in May, before leaf-out.
Fruits: pea-sized, at first red, ripe black with a bluish bloom, edible, sweetish or almost tasteless.
Leaves: thick, obovate, elliptical, with an oval apex, glabrous above, margins with simple, sharp, forward-pointing teeth, at first with a felt-like covering, later smooth.
Root system: shallow, wide, easily adapts.
Requirements: sun/partial shade, wind-resistant, suitable for urban conditions, tolerates high temperatures well, frost-hardy.
Soils: from dry to moist, from acidic to strongly alkaline, on all water-permeable mineral substrates.
Note: valuable plants – pioneers for extreme sites.
