Family kremovich. Occurs in open forests and on grassy mountain slopes of the lower and middle belts of the Coastal Ranges in California at elevations of 100--1000 m. Common name - "Golden Fairy Lantern" (Golden fairy lantern) or "Diogenes' Lantern".
Similar to С. albus in the shape and size of the whole plant, leaves and flowers. The stem is sinuous, glaucous, with 2 or more downward-facing flowers. Sepals greenish- or brownish-yellow. Petals golden-yellow with a brown blotch at the base, glabrous above the glandular pit, sparsely pubescent on its sides. The edges of the petals have a fine fringe. Seeds dark brown.
Known in cultivation in Europe. Recommended for rock gardens. 2n = 20
