Back to catalogue

Family: Gesneriaceae. Alsobia belongs to the Gesneriaceae. Sometimes it is called the carnation-flowered Episcia.

It is notable for its relatively small pubescent leaf with a bluish tint, and numerous "runners" that hang abundantly from the hanging basket, allowing Alsobia to be grown as a trailing plant. The developed "runners" and the parent rosettes bloom with beautiful, white flowers that are large compared with other Episcias, and in shape resemble a non-double carnation. Alsobia also looks good as a groundcover in pots with larger plants of similar growing conditions. This suits it very well, as the "neighbors" create the humidity it needs.
