Alnus kamtschatica (Callier) Komar.
Family Betulaceae. Russian Far East. Present in the Kronotsky Nature Reserve. Grows on mountain slopes up to 1300 m above sea level, forms thickets, often together with creeping cedar. Light-loving mesophyte.
Tree or shrub up to 1–3 m tall. Tree, at 14 years height 5.3 m, trunk diameter 1.5 m. Vegetates from 28 April±7 to 26 October±5, lasting 181 days. In the first 3 years it grows slowly. Blooms and bears fruit from 7 years of age. Blooms in the second half of May. Fruits ripen in October. Winter hardiness is high; in severe winters it is partially frost-damaged. Seed viability 70%. About 70% of summer cuttings root when treated with a 0.005% solution of IMK for 16 hours. Ornamental; recommended for landscaping in Moscow.
