Family Betulaceae. Western Siberia, Russian Far East, East Asia, North America. Present in several nature reserves of the Russian Far East. Grows in floodplain forests on well‑moistened sandy‑gravel soils. A light‑loving hygrophyte.

Tree up to 20 m tall. At 15 years: height 10 m, stem diameter 11 cm. Vegetates from 2O.IV±6 to 6.Х±8 for 168 days. Grows rapidly during the first 3 years. Flowers and fruits from 9 years of age, annually. Flowers from 23.IV to 30.IV for 7 days. Seeds ripen on 10.IX. Seeds sown in spring without stratification germinate after a few days. Winter hardiness complete. Rooting occurs in 12% of summer cuttings when treated with a 0.05% solution of IMK for 16 h. Recommended for landscaping in Moscow.
