Family Thunbergias. Native to South Africa. Commonly called "black-eyed three-part hibiscus" or "black-eyed Susan".
Climbing plant up to 2 m high. Leaves ovate to trigonally-ovate, 2.5 - 10 cm long, cordate at the base, serrated at the margins, with soft pubescence. As annual vines its large-flowered hybrids with bright yellow flowers about 3 cm in diameter with a dark-brown spot in the center of the corolla limb are used. Blooms in August-September. Flowering is long-lasting. Introduced into cultivation since 1823.
