Dog Hairgrass
Agrostis canina L.
Family Poaceae. A perennial grass up to 30 cm tall with thin short rhizomes and shoots that root at the surface. Forms a dense, resilient turf of bright green color. From the above-ground nodes it produces a large number of short, quickly rooting lateral shoots with dense foliage. Prefers excessively moist peaty soils, but also grows well on other soil types. Cold-hardy, can grow under conditions of insufficient light.
