White bentgrass
Agrostis alba L.
Family Poaceae. A low-growing perennial plant, produces a large number of daughter shoots and a highly branched root system that densely penetrates and binds the soil. Forms a firm, resilient turf. The sward is dark green, denser and more even than that of meadow-grass.
Leaves are grooved, 1–2 mm wide. Fills in bare spots in lawns on its own. Grows slowly in the first year, fully establishes in the second to third year. Performs best on light soils, but also develops successfully on loamy and sandy-loam soils.
