Adiantum (Venus hair fern)
Adiantum capillus-veneris L.
Family Pteridaceae. Plant with remarkably beautiful finely divided pinnate leaves, leaflets cuneate, on short brown hairlike petioles.
Petioles brown or black, glossy. The sori are transversely oblong, elongated along the margin of the leaf segment.
This part of the segment folds downward and the sori end up in a "pocket". One of the most beautiful ferns, but in indoor cultivation it does not tolerate dry air well and requires frequent misting. Not demanding of light. Grows well near aquariums. Native range - temperate, subtropical and tropical regions of Eurasia and southern Africa. Grows in crevices of limestone rocks, along the banks of rivers, in forests.
