Family Ranunculaceae. Grows in the European part of Russia and Central Europe.

A perennial tuberous plant up to 150 cm tall. Leaves are thick, deeply five- to seven-cleft. Flowers borne singly or in pairs on long pedicels, blue or dark blue, up to 2 cm in diameter, arranged in loose raceme-like inflorescences. Flowers from mid-July for 25-30 days. In cultivation since 1584.
