Carmichael's Aconite
Aconitum carmichaelii Deb.
Family Ranunculaceae. Occurs wild in Central China.
Plant up to 150 cm tall. Leaves trilobed. Flowers light blue, gathered in large inflorescences up to 60 cm long. Blooms in September-October. In cultivation since 1886. Has cultivars with blue ('Barkers Bar') and blue-violet flowers ('Wilsoni'). The variety var.wilsonii from Central China has splendid inflorescences, reaching 120-180 cm in height.
