Arching monkshood

Aconitum arcuatum

Back to catalogue

Buttercup family. From the forests of the Far East.

Arching monkshood liana-like perennial up to 250 cm tall. Among the many members of the genus this plant is one of the few that grows well in shade and is not poisonous. It is decorative from the beginning of the growing season (mid-April) until severe frosts. Blooms for a long time (from early August until the frosts) and abundantly. Seeds ripen in late September; seed production is abundant, and mass seedlings appear in spring. The plant is cold-hardy, not prone to disease, and is propagated by freshly collected seeds and by dividing the clump in May. Very promising for vertical greening in shade, undemanding with regard to soil, requires watering.
