A. vulgare

Back to catalogue

Family Araceae. Widely distributed in the Mediterranean. Grows on limestone slopes, often in the coastal belt, in grassy places, in hedgerows, in vineyards and olive groves.

Despite its name, this species is rarer than Arisarum proboscideum. The spathe blade is shortly acuminate, brownish-purple. The spathe tube is light green with brownish-purple longitudinal stripes. 2n=52. Flowers in spring (March-April) and autumn (October-November).

In cultivation it overwinters with cover. Represented by several varieties, differing mainly in the shape of the leaf blade and the structure of the spadix appendage.
