Astilbe Thunberg

Family Saxifragaceae. Native to Japan.

Perennial short-rhizomed plant. Bushes are dense, very decorative, up to 80 cm tall. Leaves are ornamental, glossy, dark green, covered with brown hairs. White flowers are gathered in broad, pyramidal inflorescences up to 25 cm long, with slightly nodding lateral branches. Blooms in July-August. In cultivation since 1878.
