Family Asteraceae. Grows on rocks of the seashores of the Far East, Japan, Alaska, and Norway. A creeping perennial herbaceous plant. Leaves silvery-white. The flowers have no ornamental value. Flower stalks reach up to 50 cm. In cultivation since 1865. `Moris Form` up to 30 cm tall has almost white silvery leaves. This plant creates an effect as if its leaves were cut from white felt. To maintain a compact form, pruning and annual rejuvenation by earthing-up or division are recommended. Hardy, but may suffer frost damage in snowless winters. Good for planting on rockeries and retaining walls, an excellent groundcover for a gravel garden.
