Family Umbelliferae. Occurs wild in the European part of Russia and Central Europe. Listed in the Red Data Book.

In the flowering period the bushes are sprawling up to 70 cm in height and 35-40 cm in diameter. Leaves are three- to seven-parted, on long petioles, gathered in a basal rosette. Flowers are pale pink, in simple umbels 3.5-5 cm in diameter. Bractlets are green or pale pink. Astrantia major blooms in June - August for 35-40 days. In cultivation since 1597.
