Ludovic's Wormwood
A. ludoviciana
Family: Asteraceae. Native range — most central and western regions of North America. Herbaceous perennial with stems up to 1 m tall. Forms extensive stands. Brown flowers appear in summer; each is less than 1 cm in diameter and has no ornamental value. The resulting fruits are unattractive and are best removed. Requires a sunny location. Not sufficiently hardy in temperate regions; protection with conifer boughs is necessary. Does not tolerate waterlogging. The cultivar 'Silver Queen' was obtained in the United Kingdom in the 20th century.
