A genus comprising about 110 species from the northern temperate and subtropical zones, especially from Asia and North America. It includes both evergreen and deciduous species with attractive, usually white flowers, a more or less strong fragrance, long-lasting ornamental fruits, attractive autumn coloration, and a wide variety of growth habits. V. opulus 'Roseum' — viburnum (Ger. — "snowball") in the literal sense of the word.
