Tupelo, nyssa

There are a total of 6 species, 4 of which are in North America and 2 in Asia. Deciduous trees with alternate leaves and inconspicuous flowers and fruits. Species of this genus are notable for their autumn coloration. They prefer moist, non-calcareous soil. Because of their taproot they are difficult to transplant; spring planting is recommended.
