Willow

This genus, which includes about 300 species and occurs almost exclusively in the northern zone, is extraordinarily diverse and very long-lived. These are deciduous shrub-like or also tree-like willows that are found both on the plains and in the mountains. Leaves are variable, but most often lanceolate; the flowers are the familiar catkins. Their greatest value lies in their very early flowers, which provide an excellent food source for bees.
