Northern Persia. Broadly spreading, picturesque tree-like shrub with several trunks or a medium-sized tree; bark peeling like that of a plane tree. Grows well on fertile, slightly acidic or weakly alkaline, sufficiently moist soil. Isolated specimens can reach 12-15 m in height and 8-10 m in width, with branches growing in an umbrella-like form. Leaves, resembling witch-hazel, turn a bright golden-yellow or vivid red in autumn. Flowers and fruits are inconspicuous. Shallow root system. Very valuable, disease-resistant, heat-loving, tolerant of urban climates. Very well suited to shady locations. Hardiness zone 5a.
